My El Salvador was USA

Came to following my dreams

Arriving in Los Angeles from El Salvador at the age of 25, I faced a daunting challenge: I couldn’t speak English. This language barrier made finding a job seem impossible. No matter how hard I tried, opportunities slipped through my fingers.

Then, I discovered We R Strong, a community organization dedicated to helping immigrants like me learn English and find jobs. Joining their program was a turning point. I threw myself into English classes, determined to improve.

The real breakthrough came through the organization’s forums. There, I connected with Sarah, another member who worked for a local business owner. She saw something in me—maybe it was my determination or my newfound language skills—and recommended me for a job with her employer.

‘ll never forget the nervous excitement of that interview. But my hard work paid off. I got the job! With every day that passed, I gained confidence in my abilities. The language barrier no longer held me back.

Today, I am thriving in my career, grateful for the support of We R Strong and the opportunities they provided. My journey from uncertainty to success taught me the power of perseverance and community. It’s a story of triumph over adversity, and I’m proud to share it as a testament to what can be achieved with determination and support.
